Health Care is a GROWING industry

In case you didn't know this, health care is a growing industry. Unfortunately for all of us, doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies aren't going away anytime soon. But for you, as small business owners, it is a wonderful opportunity to get to know the Hospital Corporation of America.

At its founding in 1968, Nashville‐based Hospital Corporation of America “HCA” was one of the nation's first hospital companies. Today, we are the nation's leading provider of healthcare services, a company comprised of locally managed facilities that includes about 165 hospitals and 115 freestanding surgery centers in 20 states. HCA is committed to the care and improvement of human life and strives to deliver high quality, cost effective healthcare in the communities we serve.

HCA utilizes a group of General Contracting Firms to manage larger construction projects throughout the country.  These firms contract with local subcontractor, vendor and supply firms to perform the actual construction and provide equipment and materials.  As part of this effort, HCA strives to maximize inclusion for our construction projects.  At Project Bid Time, the General Contractor solicits the local contracting/vendor community, conducts various Outreach and Subcontractor Bid Meetings to review the scope and schedule of the project, along with subcontracting, vendor and supply opportunities.

It is our goal that through these efforts we can increase the amount of Diversity and Minority Construction Company and Vendor opportunities for our HCA projects and increase awareness with the USDC organizations about our local facilities and potential construction opportunities that exist at these facilities.

Our May meeting is hosted by HCA and they are excited to meet small businesses in Utah. We will be meeting at St. Marks Hospital in Salt Lake and will hear a presentation on the growth of HCA. We will also learn about products and services they are looking to purchase in the future. Make plans to attend the USDC monthly meeting on Thursday, May 19.
